hello, star people. welcome to scorpio season!
this is the time of the year when the days grow shorter, the air crisper & the leaves (if you have the good fortune to be in a place the experiences a traditional autumn) turn gorgeous shades of gold, browns, oranges & reds. it is the time for hot chocolate (or pumpkin lattes if you like), soul nourishing stews & indoor activities like watching the harry potter series or a favourite horror film or series. it is also the time when it is said by many magical & mystical traditions that the veil between our world & the otherworld (aka the afterlife or underworld) is considered to be at its thinnest. & during this time, we remember those they have moved on from this life to whatever comes next.
so scorpio season has all of the spooky themes that can make this time of the year a disorienting creepfest or a groovy spooktacular!
scorpio the enigma & the demonisation
scorpio has the reputation of being all about sex, death & being mysterious. it is a fixed water sign that all the astro memes on instagram will wax poetic about how guarded (or closed off) scorpios are. & how ruthless. this is, of course, rubbish! i submit that scorpio has been misunderstood & in this post today, i will discuss a new way to view scorpio. now i don’t want to dwell on the old stereotypes because i think they have enough airplay on the interwebs as it is. so i will just speak on how a reframing of scorpio.
first of all, scorpio gets a bad rep because of the signs association with themes & archetypes the dominant culture deems taboo, or uncomfortable or unsettling. a case in point is death. we all know that all things come to an end; which means everything dies eventually. as a culture, we have shied away from speaking our own mortality because to speak it feels like inviting it into our lives. this goes back to ancient greece as well. the god hades’ name was not spoken of because it was believed that to speak his name was to invite death into one’s life. to this day, we still live as if we are immortal.
